Lab Coat Dress

As seen in WWD.

When I designed this Lab Coat for the sewers in my workshop, I envisioned the white coats worn by the "petits-mains" in the ateliers of the French haute couture tradition.

While we make our garments entirely by hand, we also experiment like scientists -- boiling our fabric like a stew to soften it, and dipping our finger into the indigo dye vat to taste its pH. For this reason, a lab coat style seemed fitting.

The handwoven fabric is lightweight, airy and refreshing to wear on its own. The high side slits let you walk gracefully as the warm breeze flows through.

This is the natural cotton color: raw, pure and unadulterated. Fluffy white fiber plucked directly from the cotton shrub, it's the closest you'll get to wearing a plant straight from the earth.

Cozy French seams follow the curves of your body. Roomy patch pockets have cording detail. Fabric knot buttons fit elegantly through hand-embroidered button-holes.

The exposed fabric selvedge running down the front placket and sleeve cuff reminds you it's the real handwoven stuff.

Pair with sandals for an effortless beach look, or with white sneakers for hopping around the city.
